Springbank & Elbow Valley
Springbank's acreage country and the Elbow Valley corridor — estate homes on five to twenty acres, golf-course enclaves, and long private approaches off Highway 8. Acreage is the hardest residential subject to sell from the ground and the easiest from the air: only altitude shows where the property line actually runs.
The airspace across Springbank
This corridor sits inside or immediately adjacent to the Springbank Airport (CYBW) Class C control zone. CYBW is a busy training field, so authorisation here is routine work rather than an exception, and it is filed before every shoot.
What that means in practice.
2 locations in this corridor are flown as routine work. All of them sit in controlled airspace, so an Advanced RPAS certificate is the entry requirement here rather than a credential worth mentioning.
Aerodromes in play. Springbank Airport (CYBW). Each has a circuit that is plotted before a local flight, because uncontrolled airspace is not the same thing as unoccupied airspace.
Mobilisation. Between 25 and 25 minutes from the Calgary base. The whole corridor is comfortably same-day.
Conditions across the corridor.
Springbank
Open rolling upland between the Elbow and Bow valleys. Long sightlines west to the front ranges, with shallow coulees breaking the parcels.
Elevated and exposed to the chinook. West wind arrives off the foothills with little to slow it and builds through the afternoon.
Elbow Valley
A wooded river valley with estate lots stepping down toward the Elbow. Dense mature canopy and significant lot-to-lot elevation change.
The valley shelters the floor but accelerates wind across the upper benches — conditions vary sharply over short distances.

Springbank questions, answered.
Do you need airspace authorisation across Springbank?
Yes, across the corridor. Every location covered in Springbank sits in controlled airspace, so flights require an Advanced RPAS certificate and a NAV CANADA authorisation filed before the shoot date is confirmed.
How far is Springbank from the Calgary base?
Between 25 and 25 minutes, depending on the location. The whole corridor is comfortably same-day.
What gets photographed most in Springbank?
Chiefly acreage estate, luxury residential, agricultural. The subject mix drives the shot list: a corridor of acreage estates needs boundary and approach coverage, where an industrial corridor needs repeatable overhead passes flown from identical coordinates.
