Chestermere
Alberta's lake city — Westmere, Rainbow Falls, Kinniburgh, Chelsea, The Cove and the lakeshore. A town organised around a single body of water, which makes the aerial case obvious: from the ground a lakefront home shows a fence and a dock, and from 90 metres it shows the reason someone paid for it.
The airspace across Chestermere
Chestermere sits immediately east of Calgary under the outer edge of the CYYC control zone. The boundary runs through the area rather than around it, so authorisation status is confirmed per address, not per town.
What that means in practice.
10 locations in this corridor are flown as routine work. All of them sit in controlled airspace, so an Advanced RPAS certificate is the entry requirement here rather than a credential worth mentioning.
Aerodromes in play. Calgary International Airport (CYYC). Each has a circuit that is plotted before a local flight, because uncontrolled airspace is not the same thing as unoccupied airspace.
Mobilisation. Between 25 and 25 minutes from the Calgary base. The whole corridor is comfortably same-day.
Conditions across the corridor.
Chestermere
Flat prairie built around a reservoir. The water is the only significant terrain feature, and it dominates every composition.
Open water with no shelter. Wind crossing the lake arrives unbroken, and surface chop is a reliable visual indicator of conditions aloft.
Chelsea
Flat prairie at Chestermere's western edge, mid-conversion from cultivated ground to subdivision — new road network and graded lots on one side of the frame, open field on the other.
Chinook belt with nothing upwind. West wind arrives off open prairie unbroken, a building site offers no shelter, and bare graded ground throws dust in a dry blow.
Dawson's Landing
Flat prairie at the south end of Chestermere, threaded by the canal system that feeds and drains the lake — the water lines are the only geometry the survey grid does not control.
Chinook belt, flat and open. There is no ground here tall enough to slow a west wind, and the lake and canal surfaces show the gusts as moving cat's-paws before an anemometer does.
East Chestermere
The lake's eastern shore: flat prairie meeting the reservoir in a line of private docks and mature yards, with open grain land running east behind the houses.
Chinook belt, downwind shore. Westerlies cross the water without obstruction and arrive carrying the lake's full fetch; surface chop here is the most honest wind report in Chestermere.

Chestermere questions, answered.
Do you need airspace authorisation across Chestermere?
Yes, across the corridor. Every location covered in Chestermere sits in controlled airspace, so flights require an Advanced RPAS certificate and a NAV CANADA authorisation filed before the shoot date is confirmed.
How far is Chestermere from the Calgary base?
Between 25 and 25 minutes, depending on the location. The whole corridor is comfortably same-day.
What gets photographed most in Chestermere?
Chiefly luxury residential, new build subdivision, lakefront. The subject mix drives the shot list: a corridor of acreage estates needs boundary and approach coverage, where an industrial corridor needs repeatable overhead passes flown from identical coordinates.
