Drone photography in Currie, Alberta

The Currie Barracks Parade Square is kept open and level in the middle of a district that is otherwise filling in, so evening light crosses it uninterrupted and throws the surrounding new rooflines into long relief. Shoot at midday and the district flattens into plan view — the square reads as empty ground and a new build on Vimy Way SW looks like every other elevation on the block.

A golden-hour hold timed to the low light puts shadow and depth back into the frame, with the square as the anchor — delivered in the standard turnaround.

Airspace. Currie is about 14 km from Calgary International, near the CYYC control zone's charted boundary; a single address can fall either side of the line. The default plan treats it as controlled airspace until NAV Drone confirms otherwise, with authorisation filed before booking wherever it is required. Terrain. Level former airfield ground: open, regular blocks around the preserved parade square, with Mount Royal University's campus holding the district's southern edge.

Wind. Chinook belt with no terrain shelter — the ground here is flat by design. A westerly crosses the open square at full strength, so winter windows follow the gust spread rather than the daily average.

Light. The open square and wide streets photograph cleanly in every season, but low-angle light — early or late — is when the layout reads as geometry instead of pavement. Snow cover holds evenly on the level ground.

On the ground. City of Calgary parks bylaws restrict takeoff and landing in municipal parks and on pathways, so launches are arranged from private property with the client's consent. About 15 minutes from the base, with Garrison Woods, Altadore and Killarney/Glengarry adjoining — one mobilisation can cover a listing and its comparables in the same light.
