Drone photography in Sherwood, Alberta

Sherwood hangs off one spine: Sherwood Drive NW carries every court in the community, and from altitude the pocket reads as sealed — bounded along one edge by the flat big-box roof plane of Beacon Hill Shopping Centre. A buyer scanning ground photos cannot tell Sherwood's courts apart or see how self-contained the pocket is — the quiet that comes from having no through traffic never makes it into the frame.

A boundary-line orbit at a few hundred feet shows the sealed edges, the single spine and the shopping centre a short run away, delivered in the standard turnaround.

Airspace. Sherwood sits about 11 km from Calgary International — near the charted boundary of the CYYC control zone, close enough that which side of the line a given address falls on decides the paperwork. It is planned as controlled airspace until NAV Drone shows otherwise for the specific site, and where authorisation is required it is filed before the date is booked. Before any flight, the exact site and altitude are checked against NAV Drone. This is a corridor-level assessment; the specific address is confirmed against NAV Drone before every flight.

Terrain. Gently rolling upland at the city's northern shoulder — modest relief inside the community itself, with the long views belonging to Nose Hill Park rising on the south-east skyline.

Wind. Chinook belt. Open upland without meaningful shelter, so winter windows are picked on gust spread; a calm average with a wide spread is still a no-fly.

Light. Newer rooflines and light streets photograph best under low-angle sun — the first and last hours. On the open upland the golden hour arrives ungated by terrain and runs its full published length.

On the ground. City of Calgary parks bylaws bar drone takeoff and landing in municipal parks, Sherwood Park included, so flights are launched from private property with the client's consent. About 20 minutes from the Calgary base — same-day territory, and easily combined with Kincora, Symons Valley or Panorama Hills on the same run.
